1832 Letter Regarding an Order of Madeira Wine Sent to a New York Merchant. Madeira: 1832. 4to, handwritten letter, 1pp, sent by J. Howard March & Co of Madeira, Spain in July, 1832, to W.B.. Crosby Esq. John Howard March of New Hampshire was a wine importer based in Madeira. James Madison had been a customer of his and nominated him to serve as U.S. Consul at Madeira. Here, a representative of the company writes to a wealthy New York City merchant regarding his order: "Our Mr. F. March having returend to this Island from the United States has been at great pains in selecting...from our extensive stock of fine wines a pipe of remarkably choice quality. We have shipped it in the Edgar Ward Master bound to New York..." In very good condition with folding creases.  [8096]
