An epic and romanticized depiction of Westward Expansion set between 1839 and 1889, comprised of five episodes and following four generations of a family as they move westward from New York. One of two dramatic films shot for the curved screen, three projector, Cinerama format. The film won three Academy Awards including Best Screenplay and was nominated for five others.
