    OLD 1840s RECEIPTS FROM BOSTON MA AREA CHANEY FAMILY
    Total of ELEVEN receipts. All are written in manuscript. All are dated in the 1840s except one that is undated but from about the same period. Most made out for James Chaney. Vary in size from about 2 x 5” to about 8 x 9”. A few are a little torn & ragged around the edges, one receipt is rather severely “cut canceled,” but most are in quite good condition on paper of excellent rag content. Wide variety of items including “freight from Boston,” straw basket, combs, chest, bedstead, cigars, butter, cheese, potatoes, green flannel, black cloth, one strap of bells, nutmeg, boy’s boots, walking shoes & MORE.
    “James Chaney was born 9 October 1797 Bradford, Essex, Massachusetts and died on 16 December 1884 (Age 87) in Salem, Essex, Massachusetts.”
